About me
My name is NIYODUSENGA Patrick, Burundian, aged 40, I have over than 12years experience in managing mental health programs, psychological support and psychotherapeutic support for individuals and groups with the aim of behavioural change, capacity building on the determinants of mental health.
. More recently, I worked at the UNICEF country office in Burundi as Social Behaviour Change, Risk Communication and Community Engagement Officer (SBC/RCCE). I worked as a project assistant for mental health and early childhood development with Save the Children International (SCI) in the implementation and integration of mental health services in Congolese refugee camps in the provinces of Ruyigi and Cankuzo and their surrounding community. The aim is to prevent transgenerational trauma from parents to children
I worked also with UNICEF as a National Consultant Social Behavior Change Officer (SBC) in the capacity building of executives of the Provincial Health Office (BPS &BDS) on Social Behavior Change as part of communication activities and community mobilization in the fight against polio. In March 2023 I became a trainer and facilitator for an international NGO JRS in the fight against SGBV, law, sexual and reproductive health, clinical psychologist in the emergency trauma project of Médecins Sans Frontières in the management of physical and psychological trauma and the fight against SGBV, as well as other local NGOs and religious denominations where I worked as a delegate in the protection and behavioral change of vulnerable groups.

Social Behavior Change Officer/ Risk Communication and Community Engagement ( SBC -RCCE)
1. Provide technical capacity building, coaching, mentoring and supervisory support to partner staff engaged in the implementation of Mpox response activities. Conduct rapid qualitative assessments and context-specific research to generate a solid evidence base for the community engagement programme and support advocacy for the response to the epidemic;
2. Supporting the development of the community engagement strategy by proposing precise modalities
(target groups, approaches, techniques) and guiding the interventions of our partners defined on the basis
of the results of rapid qualitative surveys which include community dialogues, encouragement
of success stories, discussion groups, interactive theatres, mass communications ……
3. Lead and support the design, development and strategic context analysis of new project documents focusing on protection and quality assurance and technical support to other projects with SBC / RCCE and gender, child protection, disability inclusion, accountability to affected people (AAP), SGBV and PEASH components;
4. Encourage partnership and collaboration between other sections of UNICEF Burundi, cross-cutting programmes and operations, education and skills, child protection, WASH and climate, health, nutrition, as well as economic recovery, in order to improve the quality of programming and a holistic approach to meeting the protection needs of target populations;
5. Carry out regular monitoring visits to the field in order to assess progress and identify technical quality issues and/or other implementation problems by the partner, provide solutions in collaboration with the Mpox RCCE coordinator and implement corrective measures/modifications if necessary;
6. Proactively identify, assess, monitor and implement measures to reduce or control risks that may impact on the delivery, quality or compliance of social science research, community feedback and SBC/RCCE programmes;
7. Proactively assess the quality of SBC/RCCE partners’ programmes and identify, propose and implement measures to improve programme quality, including capacity building, training, development of tools and technical resources;
8. Coordinate, monitor and document the work of RCCE implementing partners, collecting, compiling, coding and analyzing data trends from weekly reports submitted by implementing partners and making recommendations to strengthen monitoring at community level;
9. Provide technical support to build the community risk communication and engagement (RCCE) capacity of frontline community actors involved in the Mpox response and contribute to the development and updating of the Mpox RCCE training modules.
10. Participate in RCCE orientation/training sessions for Mpox response actors and organize formative supervision of RCCE interventions carried out by actors whose skills have been strengthened.
11. Coordinate with colleagues in other sections such as child protection, planning, monitoring and evaluation, and education, the integration of Mpox RCCE activities to enable the operationalization and multi-sectoral nature of prevention and response interventions and support the monitoring of activities in the field for implementing partners, including the organization of programmatic monitoring visits for partners.
12. Support the coordination of the implementation of SBC/RCCE Mpox activities and assist partners in ensuring the implementation of RCCE Mpox activities in accordance with the programme documents developed: technical support, formative supervision, provision of RCCE tools/materials, etc.

Mental Health Early and Childhood Development Project Assistant
1. Coordinating the entire process of preparing, carrying out, Ensure coordinated implementation of the program at different levels with all relevant stakeholders; Supervise competition activities for talented young people, innovation events, mainly organized during vacation periods by implementing partners in refugee camps.
2. Ensure the implementation of strategies to improve the quality of mental health and early childhood development services through Formative supervision, Clinical mentoring, Evaluation of health facilities and quality of care;
3. Plan, organize and facilitate advocacy and consultation workshops with key stakeholders and local authorities (including government, NGO partners, decision-makers, civil society, religious leaders, etc.)
4. Initiate and develop Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) by promoting the installation of child-stimulation tools and materials at repatriation transit sites and refugee camps.
5. Support implementing partners in identifying appropriate community mechanisms and frameworks for the development of better mental health among teenagers and young people
6. Raise awareness of mental health and psychosocial support among refugees and vulnerable people in neighboring communities.
7. In collaboration with institutional partners ( UNHCR, WFP, World Bank, HNTPO,IOM,WHO, HoM…,) organize and run awareness-raising and promotion sessions on mental health and psychosocial support(MHPSS) on Early Childhood Development( ECD) for beneficiaries.
8. In collaboration with Child Protection colleagues in refugee camps, support the monitoring of the use of digital communication platforms aimed at strengthening innovation for adolescents and young people in order to reinforce their engagement and participation for their empowerment.
9. Promote longer-term psychological support based on tools and methods developed or modules aimed at their personal development, in the areas of intervention Support the MoH in Scenario planning and trend analysis to capture the pressing needs of vulnerable children and families in the area of operation. Identify and support opportunities for CP & MHPSS/ECD assessments, in close coordination with partners and per security/access approvals, to inform responsive program design.
10. In collaboration with the Health Districts, organize training for trainers workshops and training for Light Parents on the mental health module. Mobilize internal and external capacity-building opportunities based on clear development goals for respective line reports and strategic directions of the overall CP & MHPSS portfolio;
11. Provide coaching and guidance to staff as required and lead initiatives to develop staff capacity.
12. Develop a gender capacity building and support plan for all staff and Gender focal points. This should include working with Child Protection and CSG colleagues to deliver training on Safe Identification and Referral of risks to children in the Camps of refugees and in the centre of transit of rapatriement people;
13. Work with Child Protection and other technical colleagues at the field to assess SGBV/MHPSS programming needs, internal and external capacity to respond to needs and potential risks to children, communities and our presence in responding. Use this as a basis to identify prevention, mitigation and response activities;
14. In collaboration with Child Protection, and Health colleagues, establish or develop referral pathways for GBV in programme locations. Support setting GBV Case management systems, and building capacities of case workers on caring for child survivors ;
15. Receive reports, lessons learned and good practices from project activities and psychosocial support. Support also communications and advocacy teams to promote relevant advocacy messages on MHPSS and CP/GBV and ensure our communications are child-sensitive and promote Childhood development ;
16. In collaboration with the MEAL officer, help to develop the monitoring and evaluation tool for project activities,Oversee the documentation of evidence of change in terms of figures and success stories to better document the per-formance of the program;

Social Behavior Change Officer Polio ( SBC -Polio) Consultant
1. Support the implementation of the polio project in accordance with the planning of activities validated by the supervisor, the SBC specialist, the technical referee and the head of the SBC Section, UNICEF Burundi;
2. Support the Provincial Doctors and the Chief Doctors of the Health Districts in capacity building activities in the area of Social and Behavior Change programmers and provide daily advice in terms of capacity building/coaching for district agents and communities in the field (Health Promotion Technician / TPS) in the context of communication and community mobilization activities in the fight against polio.
3. Support the Provincial Doctors and Chief District Health Officers in organizing advocacy, social mobilization and community engagement meetings in support of the campaign.
4. Develop a monthly work plan for the detailed implementation of activities in collaboration with field supervisors and partners involved in implementation at local level, in line with the response project’s action plan.

1. Identification, assessment and analysis of mental health needs and People with Specific Needs (PSN)during morning medical staffs, structured clinical visits and establish a care plan.
2. Psychological support and psychotherapeutic sessions for admitted patients through individual and/orfamily clinical interviews;
3. Confidential holistic care for survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) following MSFprotocols and principles and ensure a follow-up plan and strategy for patients;
4. Organize, facilitate and conduct therapeutic, discussion, psycho-educational or occupational groupsfor children,adolescents and adults as well as psycho-social occupational activities
